Safari Adventure, Coastal Calm — Seven Perfect Kenyan Days
Kenya offers one of Africa's most satisfying safari-and-beach combinations, with a direct flight connecting the Maasai Mara to the coast. You spend four days tracking big cats in the Mara and rhinos at Lake Nakuru. Then you fly directly from the Mara to Ukunda (Diani) — no need to return to Nairobi — and within two hours you are walking barefoot on one of Africa's most beautiful beaches.

Diani Beach is Kenya's finest stretch of coast. Seventeen kilometres of powder-white sand, warm turquoise water protected by a coral reef, and a relaxed Swahili atmosphere that feels a world away from the safari plains. Snorkelling, dhow cruises, forest walks to see colobus monkeys, and the simple pleasure of doing nothing by the Indian Ocean.

Useful Information

  • Visa process descriptions
  • Visa Prices, or similar
  • How does Diani compare to Zanzibar? Diani is often described as Kenya's answer to Zanzibar, though they have distinct characters. Diani is more accessible — direct flights from the Mara, no visa required beyond Kenya. The beach is arguably superior — 17km of powder-white sand versus Zanzibar's more varied coastline. Zanzibar adds the cultural dimension of Stone Town and the spice farms. Both are excellent; Diani is the more convenient option for a Kenya-only itinerary.
  • Is the flight from the Mara to Diani reliable? Yes, operated by Safarilink and AirKenya. The flight takes approximately 1.5–2 hours, often with a brief stop. Flying directly from the Mara to the coast saves you the journey back to Nairobi. Your luggage is transferred seamlessly. The views from the aircraft — across the Rift Valley, the Tsavo plains and the Indian Ocean coastline — are spectacular.
