The Five-Day Difference: Why This Is Our Most Popular Duration
Five days is the Goldilocks duration for a Tanzanian safari — long enough to explore four distinct ecosystems, short enough to fit into a single week of leave. This itinerary includes every major park on the Northern Circuit, each chosen for a different wildlife experience. Tarangire for elephants and baobabs. Lake Manyara for tree-climbing lions and flamingos. Ngorongoro for the sheer density of wildlife. And the Serengeti — for two full days of the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth.

With two nights in the Serengeti, you explore both the central Seronera Valley (big cats) and have the flexibility to follow the migration's seasonal movements. Private vehicle throughout. Hand-picked camps and lodges at every stop. This is the safari that converts first-timers into lifelong Africa devotees.;;;;

Itinerary

Day 1

Arusha to Tarangire — Afternoon Among Giants

Morning collection from Kilimanjaro Airport or your Arusha hotel. Drive through the Maasai steppe to Tarangire National Park. After settling into your lodge, depart on an afternoon game drive. Tarangire's landscape — rolling hills dotted with giant baobabs — is one of Africa's most distinctive. The park's elephant population is legendary; you are likely to see large breeding herds with calves. Lion prides hunt the riverine woodlands. The Tarangire River, the only permanent water source, draws wildlife from across the ecosystem. Sundowners at a scenic viewpoint before dinner at your lodge.
- Tarangire's elephants and baobabs
- Riverine wildlife concentrations
- Luxury lodge with panoramic views

Day 2

Lake Manyara & Karatu Highlands

Morning game drive in Tarangire, departing after breakfast toward Lake Manyara National Park. This compact park packs extraordinary diversity — a groundwater forest home to baboons and blue monkeys, a soda lake fringed with flamingos, and open plains where tree-climbing lions are regularly spotted. After a picnic lunch, continue into the green highlands around Karatu. Visit a local coffee plantation and enjoy the cooler mountain air. Overnight at a beautiful farm lodge on the slopes of the Ngorongoro highlands.
- Lake Manyara's tree-climbing lions
- Flamingo-dotted soda lake
- Coffee plantation visit
- Highland farm lodge

Day 3

Ngorongoro Crater — The Eighth Wonder

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater at dawn — the early start rewards you with the crater largely to yourself before day-trippers arrive. Spend the full morning tracking the Big Five. The crater's 25,000 animals include black rhino, large-tusked elephants, lion prides, spotted hyenas, hippos and vast herds of wildebeest and zebra. Picnic breakfast beside a hippo pool. After a morning of extraordinary game viewing, ascend the crater wall and drive into the Serengeti, arriving at your camp in the central Seronera Valley in time for a sunset game drive.
- Dawn crater descent
- Full morning tracking the Big Five
- Drive into the Serengeti
- Sunset game drive in Seronera

Day 4

Full Day in the Serengeti — Predators & Plains

A full day devoted to the Serengeti, with the flexibility to follow the wildlife wherever it leads. Dawn game drive when predators are most active. Return to camp for a relaxed breakfast and siesta. Afternoon game drive exploring different areas of the central Serengeti — the Seronera River Valley's kopjes (rocky outcrops) are famous leopard and lion territory. If the migration is in the area (timing dependent), we drive to the herds for one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth. Sundowners at a kopje with 360-degree views over the plains.
- Full day of game drives
- Leopard tracking on kopjes
- Optional migration viewing
- Sundowners on a kopje

Day 5

Final Dawn Drive & Return

One last dawn game drive — the Serengeti at first light is a memory that stays with you forever. Return to camp for breakfast. Transfer to Seronera Airstrip for a bush flight to Arusha, arriving in time for international connections. Alternatively, extend your journey with 3–4 nights on Zanzibar — ask us about our safari-and-beach combinations.
- Final Serengeti dawn
- Scenic bush flight
- Optional Zanzibar extension

Useful Information

  • Best Time to Go June–October for best general game viewing. January–March for the Serengeti calving season. April–May for lush landscapes, fewer visitors and lower rates. The itinerary is fully operational year-round.
  • What is the difference between this 5-day and the 4-day safari? The extra day gives you two full days in the Serengeti instead of one, plus the addition of Lake Manyara National Park. You experience four parks instead of three, with more time at each. The pacing is more relaxed, with a beautiful highland farm stay on night two. Most guests find the 5-day version the sweet spot — comprehensive without being exhausting.
  • Can I see the Great Migration on this itinerary? The migration's location varies by month. From December–March the herds are in the southern Serengeti (easily accessible from our route). June–July they cross the Grumeti River in the western corridor. August–October they cross the Mara River in the northern Serengeti. November they move south. We adjust your Serengeti camp location based on where the herds are during your travel dates to maximize your chances.
  • What is the vehicle like? Our extended Land Cruisers seat up to 6 guests but we typically operate with 4 maximum for comfort. Features include a pop-up roof for 360-degree viewing and photography, bean bags for camera support, fridge with cold drinks, USB charging points, binoculars and field guides. Window seats are guaranteed for every guest.
