- How physically demanding is gorilla trekking? Moderate to demanding. Treks can last 2-6 hours through steep, muddy terrain at altitude (2,500-3,000 metres). A reasonable level of fitness is important. Porters are available to assist, and the pace is adjusted to the group. Many travellers in their 60s and 70s successfully complete the trek.
